Creating the Perfect Intimate Wedding in 2021 (with my own personal vendor recommendations!)

Love is not canceled, and your wedding doesn’t have to be either! As we all move forward during these unsure times, so many couples are faced with difficult decisions in the next steps of planning their weddings. As some consider scaling down their larger events to much smaller, or splitting up their ceremony and reception so they can still get married on their original date, I thought I’d share some wonderful ideas from smaller, more intimate weddings I’ve photographed.

Many folks are faced with the idea that their large indoor (or even outdoor) reception might have to be changed due to Covid restrictions and are unsure what to think. I’d like to show you  that although drastically different, even a small backyard wedding can be absolutely magical.

Micro-Weddings

There are some beautiful local venues that can host a perfect micro wedding on their stunning properties. Venues have worked hard to create smaller scale packages that still give you everything you were dreaming of, with just a few less people...

Marlena and Kyle decided to scale down their larger indoor event to a smaller outdoor celebration in the courtyard of the Holly Hedge Estate. I just love this place. Everything is so well done and I could spend and entire day exploring the grounds with my couples to use all their gorgeous photo backdrops!

Jen and Matt had their small wedding at the lovely Black Bass Hotel with an amazing view of the Delaware river and the opportunity to have photos taken on the footbridge over the river! How sweet is this little set up? Love the blankets.

A few other lovely venues in the area that would be perfect for your smaller wedding:

The Farmstead of Ringoes

Unionville Vineyard

Blue Moon Farm

Lambertville Station Inn

The Farmhouse

Beautiful Back Yard Weddings

Want to do something even smaller? How about right in your back yard?

When it was clear that their larger farm  wedding couldn’t happen this past spring, these two couples threw the most beautiful wedding celebrations right in their back yards! With the help of their families and some amazing local vendors they had such sweet, intimate, special weddings full of personal details that might never have happened with a larger event. So many vendors will come to your home, like Alyssa at Euphoria for hair and Makeup by Monica for perfect makeup. If you’re overwhelmed with decor and planning, folks like Kristina at Eventurous Memories can help you with everything! You can even add some fun personalized touches like these custom corn hole boards from Hammer and Stain that you'll be able to keep and use for years to come!

Melissa and Tyler were able to include their dogs, horse and even their goat in photos, and we stopped for a photo on the wood pile that is a huge part of their lives with their tree business! Melissa enlisted the help of her sister and friend to create all the beautiful decor, and her bestie officiated the event. They rented a tent for their 25 guests from Starr's Party Rentals had delicious food catered by Dan's Backyard BBQ, and finished off the day with the always amazing Scoops on Wheels.

Casey and Ryan decided to postpone their reception but still wanted to tie the knot, so had the most lovely ceremony in their yard, officiated by their best friend and surrounded by the love of their immediate families. But just because it was in their yard didn’t mean every detail couldn’t be perfect! I LOVED the beautiful small ceremony site that Ryan and Casey hand crafted for themselves. And after the ceremony, Casey changed into her mother’s wedding dress (!) that was perfect for the intimate family dinner they were having to celebrate.

Don't Be Afraid to Ask for Help!

Don’t feel like your yard is the right space? Perhaps you have a family member or close friend with the perfect property! If anything, this has been a year of family and we all want to do anything to help each other. Janine and Kelsey were both able to use family farm properties for their absolutely gorgeous weddings! I’m sure everyone had to do a little extra work to make it happen, but seriously, what’s not to love!?

What about the Food?

Food trucks are all the rage these days and I couldn’t love it more! Such a great way to have some amazing food options for your guests! Great food, fun idea and a chance for some different photos! Melissa and Tyler had Janine and James had Pizza Wagon and Oink and Moo BBQ, Carly and Brian had Jerry's Kitchen and Pizza Wagon, and  Melissa and Liz both had Scoops on Wheels come for dessert. Nancy at The Food Truck Lady specializes in organizing food trucks for special events and I’m sure she’d be happy to help you!
